PLAN YOUR PROJECT

Framing budget in Alberta.
A clearer starting point.

Build an Alberta planning range in CAD from your measurements and rates. Review the assumptions, then talk to BDS about a project-specific estimate.

Your rates. Your planning budget.

BDS rates have not been published in this calculator. For Alberta projects. BDS is based in Calgary; confirm coverage for your community. Enter your own unit-rate range or load the clearly labelled fictional example. Results are a budgeting aid, not a BDS quote or booking.

01 / YOUR SCOPE

What are you
planning?

All prices in Canadian dollars. Unit rates should cover the labour and materials you want included. Do not enter a unit rate and then add the same costs again as extras.

02 / YOUR ALLOWANCES

Removal, disposal, permits or other quoted lump sums.
An adjustable planning buffer, not a contractor charge.
Starts at 5% for taxable Alberta work. Change to 0% if your entered rates already include tax. Confirm the applicable treatment with your contractor.

GST reference: Canada Revenue Agency — GST/HST rates and place of supply. The tax allowance is a planning assumption, not a tax determination.

MEASURE THE RIGHT SCOPE

Area or length?

Siding uses wall area. Roofing uses actual roof surface area. Eavestroughs use linear run. Framing and combined exterior work need an agreed scope and measurement basis.

KEEP RATES COMPARABLE

What is included?

Use a labour-and-material rate for the scope you intend to compare. Ask whether trim, flashing, access, demolition and disposal are included before adding separate allowances.

ALBERTA PROJECT PLANNING

Confirm the site details.

Property condition, access, project location, timing and specification can change the quote. A budget range does not confirm BDS availability or coverage outside Calgary.

THE ASSUMPTIONS

Know what your
numbers mean.

Area conversions use 1 m² = 10.7639 ft²; length conversions use 1 m = 3.28084 ft. Rates are always entered per ft² or per linear ft.

Use the area and pricing basis specified by your contractor. Framing scope depends on drawings, structural details, access and engineering.

Is this a BDS quote?

No. The calculator uses rates you enter. The optional example uses fictional numbers and is not a BDS price, market average or offer.

How should I measure this work?

Use the area and pricing basis specified by your contractor. Framing scope depends on drawings, structural details, access and engineering.

What might be missing from the result?

Anything not included in your entered rates or other-cost allowance: inspection, substrate repairs, access equipment, demolition, disposal, flashing, trim, engineering, permits and applicable tax. Confirm inclusions in a written scope.

How can I get a project-specific estimate?

Use Discuss this scope after calculating. Your summary can be carried into the enquiry form for review. BDS must assess the work and confirm pricing, availability and inclusions separately.
